Boston University Professor Alexander Graham Bell called for his assistant using his newly patented “telegraphy” device. History knows Bell as the inventor of the telephone, but on that day he was an educator of the deaf searching for a tool to aid his work, and in the process became an engineer. This was Founded in 1876. The Master of Science is a professional degree with emphasis on advanced training in engineering science and design. Students receiving the Master of Science degree may choose to continue studies toward a doctoral degree or to enter engineering practice. Individuals should consult specific departmental/division requirements (see descriptions). A minimum of 32 semester credits is required for the Master of Science in Materials Science & Engineering, Mechanical, Electrical, and Computer Systems Engineering and Photonics. Biomedical, Manufacturing Engineering, and Global Manufacturing require 36 credits.
